Medical record technicians perform a variety of medical administrative duties that provide support to health-related services and medical departments. They are responsible for maintaining patient medical records and preparing requests for diagnostic tests and referrals. They monitor long-term patient data and audit completed records and forms for administrative and technical accuracy. They process patient admission to medical facilities and they schedule patients for medical board action.
Medical record technicians work in admissions or medical records sections of hospitals and clinics. They work in land-based facilities and aboard ships.
